Poetry from Bridge Street Elementary School

Blue...
like a blue jay, the sky, blueberries on a bush,
blue tulips in a field of ocean.
It sounds like the wind blowing,
a bunny hopping,
like leaves being stepped on.
Blue feels soft like a furry cat,
like sticky paint, like leather.
It smells like the sea, like a pie in my tuna fish.
If it could it would swim, hop, jump, draw, jog, run, walk.
Blue!

Red...
like a robin, like a campfire, like blood.
It sounds like the sizzle of hotdogs on a grill,
like pop rocks on your tongue,
a growl.
It tastes hot like a pepper, like apple skin, like sour bubble gum.
It feels puffy like bubbles,
hot as pepperoni,
soft like rose petals.
If red could
it would fly an airplane,
it would go back to the days of knights,
dragons and castles.

Red...

like a smooth rock,

like one part of a rainbow

and old red car.

It sounds like wood crashing in a fire,

an apple falling off a tree,

birds chirping.

It smells like pepperoni pizza,

like fresh strawberries,

a rose just picked.

It feels sharp as razors,

hot as fire,

smooth like flower petals.

Red would fly an army plane,

it would ski.

Red would turn into a rose.

Bored

Gray like a cloudy day.

Red like a rose

Blue like rain.

It happens when you don't get to go on vacation to Florida

or when there's nothing to do.

It sounds like rocks hitting each other

and tastes like nothing at all.

Bored...

Blue like the sky,

a bluebird, the ocean on a sunny day,

a balloon.

It sounds like blue boots squeaking on a rainy day,

the buzz of a hornet's nest,

a fish breathing.

it feels silky like kitten fur,

wiggly like raspberry jello,

like squishy blueberries.

If blue could

it would slide on the sidewalk,

skip through slippery puddles.

Blue would fly.
