   2009 Barbara Mandigo Kelly Peace Poetry Awards - An annual series of awards to encourage poets to explore & illuminate positive visions of peace and the human spirit.  Cash prizes.  DEADLINE: All entries must be postmarked by July 1, 2009

  www.gurl.com is a website for teenage girls.  They feature girl writers, artists, musicians and spoken word poets.  
  Byline Magazine at www.bylinemag.com is a monthly magazine for freelance writers.  They also carry a monthly feature called "The Student Page" in each issue from September to June.  This two-page feature offers writing contests, publication for the winners and occasional short articles to help students improve their creative writing skills.  Check out their website for more information.  
  You know those playful magnetic word kits that show up on refrigerator doors (mine, at least), cookie sheets and file cabinets...well, they have a wonderful Magnetic Poetry website.  If you are 14 years old or younger, surf on over to check out the ZOOM Magnetic Poetry Kit - Word Contest.  You could win a trip to the ZOOM studios and have your Word included in the next version of Magnetic Poetry.  If you are older than 14, check it out anyway and create your own magnetic online poem for possible publication.  If you are a teacher, follow the Teacher Link.  I just spent way too much time out there...

  www.teenink.com  TeenInk is a printed monthly publication and an on-line weekly magazine, written entirely by teens for teens. They have no staff writers so they depend on teens for material.  Each issue (read by hundreds of thousands of teenagers) contains articles by students representing schools nationwide. In addition to the printed version, their weekly on-line version gives even more teenagers an opportunity to be heard worldwide.  
 

Skipping Stones is a nonprofit young writer's magazine that encourages cooperation, creativity and celebration of cultural and environmental richness. It provides a playful forum for sharing ideas and experiences among young people from different lands and backgrounds.

What started out for me as a cyber-hunt on Robert Frost reading some of his own poetry, turned into hours of listening to other authors and poets reading their own work (Barbara Kingsolver, Wally Lamb, Charles Bukowski, Jewel, James Joyce…the list goes on).  I never did hear Robert Frost!  Go to this web address and follow the Audio link.  You must have Real Audio loaded on your machine.  Be sure you have a few hours to kill...
