A National Juried Exhibition for
Emerging Artists with Disabilities, Ages 16-25
Deadline: June 19, 2009, midnight (MST)
Theme
Starting from zero, ideas take shape, momentum
builds, creativity gathers speed, and a new work of art
is created. How does art propel your success and provide
you freedom of expression? As an artist, what sets you
in motion-and how do you fuel your imagination? Describe
your artistic journey and how disability might shape
your creative process. Define how you measure success
both artistically and within your career pathway. Share
with us your work that will launch you to the next
level.

reflect your experience of living with a disability and
its role in shaping or transforming your work.

Miscellaneous
Exclusive: Top White House Aide Talks Disability Policy
(Disability Scoop)
In February Vice President Joe Biden announced the
selection of Kareem Dale as the first ever special
assistant to the president for disability policy. Now,
in an exclusive interview with Disability Scoop, Dale
defends the president following his misstep on The
Tonight Show last week and talks about what’s next in
the administration’s plans for people with disabilities.
Tip Of The Month: Federal Contractors’ Obligations To
Individuals With Disabilities
(Mondaq)
Federal law requires employers with federal contracts or
subcontracts that exceed $10,000 to take affirmative
steps to hire, retain, and promote qualified individuals
with disabilities. From recruiting applicants with
disabilities to periodically assessing their affirmative
action programs, covered contractors should be aware of
their legal obligations with respect to individuals with
disabilities. In addition, employers who fail to recruit
and employ qualified individuals with disabilities are
overlooking a highly creative and skilled workforce. In
complying with their obligations, contractors will
likely be pleasantly surprised by the benefits of hiring
individuals with disabilities.
