(the
lines for this poem were taken from a free-write about things we love)
I Love
Fall is my favorite time of
the year-
I love the leaves turning
from green to red
in the middle of the city
where you don’t expect it,
the smell of bread and apple
pie
baking in the oven,
my mother putting on the
coffee pot
waiting for the pie to cool.
I have many things to be
thankful for.
I love canning season,
homemade potato salad
and morning dew,
popcorn and a good movie with
friends,
my children playing
basketball in the driveway
(though they are all big guys
now).
I love the first snowfall,
building a snowman,
the scent of Christmas.
I have many things to be
thankful for.
I love beach sand between my
toes,
the crash of waves,
children laughing,
singing spirituals in the
choir-
anytime, all the time,
my sister on the piano.
I love to hear music
when I am sad.
